Due to unforeseen circumstances I am now the proud owner of 2 MGB GT's.

The first one is a 1971 CB GT. It’s in a pretty bad way

The second is a 1979 RB GT. It’s in fair condition.

To me the CB is a lot more desirable car for the fact it has the chrome and sits at the proper height but it is just a to big a project for me at the moment. So I have a few questions to ask the knowledgeable folk on here about my chrome bumper conversion plan.

If I were to remove the CB from my CB GT and put them on my RB GT am I correct in thinking that all I would need would be a fitting kit and the rear infills?

If I were to lower the RB could I use the front springs and bump stops from the CB GT? I am aware I would need to purchase lowering brackets for the rear.

How hard is it to transfer the earlier CB dash into a later RB car?

Thanks for your help,

Jack

I can help on a few bits and bobs here. There'll be an expert along in due course!

Viz your front springs - no, you can't just put the cb ones in there. It's the front crossmember that was amended to raise the ride height, not the springs. The rectification from the Bee Hive is to fit shorter springs - the original bump stops are ok. The lowering kit wasn't much anyway - £50 odd or something. Worth fitting a 3/4" anti roll bar too.

Haven't tried to alter any of the other bits. I converted my first B from rubber to chrome bumpers, but it's a few years ago. Seem to remember that you'll need new front indicator / side light units, the bits that fill out the wings at the back and some blanking plates for where the rubber bumper mounts used to go. Fitting the rear bumper was a pain the arse!

Didn't try to alter the dashboard. The later dials are a different size too - I just left mine alone; they don't have the charm of the early smiths instruments, but with a dodgy bulb behind them, I found the later ones easier to read in the dark.

Thanks for that. Lowering sounds easy and more importantly cheap enough. I think the previous owner already upgraded the anti roll bar but i will have to check.

I was thinking of transferring the dials across with the dash. Would it just be a case of swapping the dials over or are they calibrated differently or incompatible with the RB wiring?
