My dad has just bought one of these as a motorway hack.

I must say it drives very nicely ride is good and the steering is nicely waited.
But god is it slow.

You have to drive with your foot welded to the floor I think even my work vivaro could out run it.

I no it's only 135 bhp. But it cant be right. Any common problems?

BMWs engine. The ZT CDTi is not that quick off the mark, but it should go like stink in the mid ranges. It has loads of torque. For example, 50-70 the CDti 135 is virtually neck and neck with the 190 petrol version. Maybe your car has a dodgy turbo or something. You can get these chipped for relatively small outlay, which will also make a big difference.

had a 75, diesel, problem was the map sensor was knackered, so hardly any power, i would put money on that, was fast enough after that was replaced.

If you're looking at 0-60 then it isn't very fast but I doubt that people who buy the diesel are that worried about that, otherwise there are some pretty good petrol versions. As has been said, the mid range is really good and as a motorway cruiser it excells.

I had to drive it back to leicester from Newcastle and and I must say it was disappointing all round even on the motorway. Just feels flat you have to thrash it and work it hard to move along.

There is no smoke and the turbo seems to be workin I removed the boost hoses to check if it was doing anything.

Might get a new maf sensor seems to be a common fault.

It did return 47 mpg though which considering I felt like I was having to push it hard is very good.

Are you sure that it's 135 bhp. All the facelift ones are but the earlier versions of the pre facelift are only about 110 which might explain the lack of power. The V5 should have the details. Conversions, a cd and plug in job I think, were available and a lot have been converted, again the V5 should have been altered. I've never found mine to be sluggish on the motorway, or anywhere else for that matter. Might be an idea to post on MG/Rover Forums, plenty of knowledge on there.
