mgf 1600 buying to repair
Discussion
Main disadvantage of the 1.6 is that its a de-specced from the earlier 1.8's.
They dont have such niceties as central locking, a volumetric alarm or electrically adjustable mirrors, and the interior trim level is basic.
Values of the 1.6 are generally lower then the 1.8's due to the lower desirability.
Personally I would try and find a 1.8 VVC model, which despite being the range topper can still be had for not a lot more then a 1.6 or 1.8 non-VVC. If you join one of the large MG clubs such as the MG Car Club, they can be insured on a classic car policy quite cheaply.

Almost certainly will not be the same gasket as an 1800! Also, you should be able to get an uprated triple layer gasket set now for the 1600 which will help prevent it happening again. The gasket will also have failed for a reason, so make sure the water pump and all the hoses / clips are working as they should.
