Hi, Hope you guys don't mind me dropping in from the HSV group but I'm thinking of treating myself to a ZT diesel as my everyday car and wondered if you had any tips about what to look out for and what to avoid like the plague. I'm thinking of a 2004/5 car with around 100,000 on the clock. Any help would be much appreciated.

Afternoon Rick, I've got an 04 facelift ZT-T diesel with 110k on the clock. Had it for 18 months approx and during that time it's had a new clutch. Apart from that just the usual servicing stuff. My local garage hasn't had any problem obtaining parts either although certain body parts may be a problem but I wouldn't let it put you off. Check service history re clutch replacement, if it's on the floor it could be on the way out. Otherwise it's a fine car, handles well and is just so good to drive. Probably the best car I've ever owned. Also very comfortable over long journeys for a car with quite hard suspension. Quick, accurate steering and a nice gearchange. People on PH seem pretty positive about them which should tell you something.

If it's not as rude question how much did the clutch set you back?

Over £1k which included complete clutch assembly, flywheel and slave, labour and VAT at my local garage. However it's possible to get it done cheaper. MG Rover forums are useful for this sort of info and I've since found out that a figure of approx half of that can sort it. Wish I'd known at the time. There's a firm called A1 clutches at Dudley who do it while you wait, you make the appointment with them.
