Well, the time has come. After 135,000 miles my ZTT 190 must go. She has been a wonderful car, and her new owner will, I am sure, be pleased with his purchase.
In all those miles she never failed to start once. Never left me by the side of the road, and has been a paragon of economical motoring. The first exhaust system lasted 8 years. The first battery 6 years. The clutch is the original and shows no signs of wear.
Never been to the dealer outside of normal maintenance windows, and in spetember was happily clocked doing 130mph in Germany. 29mpg average.
Faults in all that time?
4 tail lamp bulbs
1 x parking sensor (it did not fail per se, it was bashed by a hit and run driver at Luton airport)
1 x lower engine stabiliser bar (30 quid, 30 minuts and two bolts)
1 x VIS motor ( 5 minutes, 4 screws)
1 x thermostat plastic pipe thingy at 105k miles
I did fry the head gasket once - my fault entirely, I knew I had a water leak (the thermostat plastic pipe thing) but ignored it for MONTHS cos I was too busy. Eventually I boiled the engine dry in a traffic jam in Manchester. Topped it up and kept going - did that 5 times! Got the leak fixed at the service and hoped for the best with the head gasket. Even then it was not until 120k miles that the engine finally put the "check engine" light on.- ironically on the very morning it was going in for the 120k service. Still started unerringly though and never stopped!
She is by far and away the most reliable car I have ever owned. No squeeks or rattles either.
If they still built em, I'd have another.
But hey, maybe I was just lucky - aren't MGs supposed to be crap?
Andy
Edited to add that my buyer just dropped out (skint!) Anyone want a much loved ZTT? - see classifieds!
Sold again!
