B GT body mods??
Discussion
Now I'm getting through the mechanical bits, I'm considering what I need to do for bodywork.
I have some rust on front wings, door bottoms, around screen, front valance mainly - nothing too bad but I want to consider replacing the front wings. Just a few bubbles and nothing too bad apart from the passenger wing bottom which is quite rusty and has already been repaired.
Steel ones are so expensive (£400 each), so I'm thinking that maybe GRP wings would be best, cheaper and no rust issues but probably a lot more effort to fit.
I'm also wondering whether a sebring kit would be another option when the time comes to do the body
I passed a tartan red full sebring bodied BGT with race decals on my way to work this week - it looked stunning!
What happens with the wire wheels with a sebring kit as the wheels surely sit too far inboard?
What would you do?

Having just replaced my wheels, hubs and bearings it would seem a bit of a waste to ditch that lot for something different
Lovely idea though and maybe oneday if another restoration is needed.
I think I may go for GRP wings though, it's one of the most common places to rust (at the bottom and around the chrome strips and the headlights). I know they can star craze when hit by stones but that is usually when hit from underneath (had a few GRP cars now) and a liberal coating of rubber coat protects the GRP very well from this.
The front valance on mine is OK but was never painted inside and has loads of surface rust on the rear.
I shall see if it will clean up but if not, a GRP one will replace it. Same goes for the rear valance.
I know it apparently devalues them but I would rather have a rot free tidy car and I bought it to drive and to look nice overall, not to just polish and appreciate in value and rarely leave the garage.
The B is all undersealed now so I'm also more than happy to take it out in the wet and even on salty winter roads.

i would recomend fitting a sebring kit, as they do look brilliant. I have done several cars myself. its not a simple bolt on job and is quite fiddly, lots of bonding, filling etc, extending the inner wings, but it is well worth the effort in the end. Smith and deakin kits are the best as they are nice n thick and not so ripply, the cost is about £600 if i remember rightly.I have some rust on front wings, door bottoms, around screen, front valance mainly - nothing too bad but I want to consider replacing the front wings. With regards to the wheels, you need to find something that are 7-8 inches wide to look any good.
I have a car with 8'' berani wires on, but you will be looking at 1-2 k for a set with tyres, that is if you can find them as I have only ever seen the set that I have lol. The other option is some wide rimmed minilight wheels with centrelok fitment from someone like compomotive, and they will be about £6-700 plus tyres. The conversions arent cheap to do but they do look good!
Thanks for the tips and comments folks, all noted
I have changed my user name btw!
I would love a sebring kit but I think that is too much work for me currently and silly to replace the new wheels and tyres I have just fitted.
I'm going to keep her quite standard for now with a view to a sebring kit when the body next requires attention.
I'm now considering what to do with the engine

Uhm, interesting - please tell me more WHy bike carbs and which bike carbs?
Could a Ford carb off something else fit (many Ford parts are interchangeable)?
Do I see 2 radiators there (one alongside the engine)?

It's a 1.8 on R1 carbs I think, from what I understand, bike carbs are better and easier to set up than webbers etc.
I'll see if I can find out more.
1.8 Zetecs in standard is 125bhp, that's on a catted car. No cats + bike carbs should see ~140bhp I think + reliable.
Not bad in a car that weighs a tonne.
The Zetec is a nice engine and very clean looking. The carbs are kwaka 750 about £35 manifold is avaialble to fit.
the gearbox is mt 75 you do need to modifiy the body by the driver footwell to take it the same mod as to convert to V8. If you get a 2ltr and with little work u get 170hp say 130-140 at the wheels better than 75 normal.
I have a MGCGTS as well the archs are GRP inset into steel which is very strong and maybe easier. The wheels are 15 x 8 rear 15 x 7 front with 205 section.
That engine is full race with alloy head triple webers race cam , forged piston n rods etc, don't even dare think of the cost, more than a good GT3
