MGB Fuel sender issues
Discussion
Hello all, a problem which i optimistically hoped was relatively simple seems that it isn't.
Since obtaining my B the gauge has permanently read half full (see, i am optimistic), which it rarely is. So i decide to tear out the old sending unit (rusted and float full fuel) and put in a new one, wire it all up and hope for the best. Unfortunately the problem has continued. What would be causing this? Could it be the gauge has an issue? an earthing problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i dont have a clue

Thanks for the pointers guys.
How do i check if there are any issues with the voltage stabelizer? I think i have found it but i'm not sure. My other dials are all reading quite accurately with no jolts, apart from the speedo which needs calibrating.
When i was chasing the wires back from the sender the insulated point on the sender has a black cable that splits to two with one wire going to the batteries negative terminal and the other to the fuel pump. This, does not seem to match the wiring diagrams. A'm i looking at the wrong diagrams or is this just wrong? The wiring in my newly acquired MG is shocking and i think its going to cause some major head aches!
Cheers, Jack

I think the stabilizer is only for fuel via indicators (assuming yours is not a rubber bumper model)
original type - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG-MGB-GT-ROADSTER-VOLTAGE-S...
just one type of modern replacement - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SOLID-STATE-VOLTAGE-STABILIZ...
another (semiconductor, like what I got) - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Semiconductor-Voltage-Stabil...
I'm no expert on wiring but the earth straight off the battery sounds odd
How old is your car? is it positive earth?
ETA: voltage stabilizer is less expensive at £10 than a new guage at about £70
