MG SV-R
R for Reasonable amount of power?
MG Sport & Racing has announced a new version of the wacky MG XPOWER SV. You may have hoped that the SV-R version was the 700bhp monster raving loony MG that has been talked about but sadly it's just a 400bhp version.
The extra performance comes from a 5-0 litre, XPOWER version of the all aluminium, 32 valve, double overhead camshaft V8 engine.
The standard car, despite it's "I'm going to kick your grandmother's walking stick away " looks, comes with a mediocre 320bhp.
The SV-R is fitted with larger diameter Brembo brake discs. New alloy wheels, a rear wing and unique detailing set this car apart. An automatic transmission option will be available.
Every SV is individually built to personal customer order and prices for the entry level SV start from £65,750.00.
Prices for the new SV-R start from £82,950.00
Recently appointed Managing Director of MG Sport & Racing John Parkinson said: "The SV-R is the next step in the evolution of the SV range and represents a tremendous increase in power and performance which makes it a thrill to drive ."
However, if they build the 'factory' 700-brake nitrous-injected version as promised, it'll be a different story - a 200mph devourer of six-figure Ferraris boasting an engine that takes nitro, yet doesn't need a rebuild every two minutes would be a first.

It will be crap , if it cant handle 400 , then 700
is just stupid , and how much for the 700bhp version
if the 400bhp is 80k odd , oh and it looks crap.

And who says it can't handle 400bhp? The Top Gear test showed it handled pretty well actually, and wasn't that much slower than a GT3, even with much less power.
I think you are in danger of letting your (fashionable) prejudices get in the way of the facts!
And the Nitrous one is 975hp, the 700hp is the Rouch (sp?) engined one - No nitrous!
A Typhon at £80k has , what, 500/550Hp.
And then there are the established players - a new GT3 with 380hp ( but lighter) or a nice 550/575 Maranello.
And what about a Maserati - today they have just REDUCED prices so that a 400 hp beauty is just £58k...
Makes me sooo frustrated. What is the David Brent look - alike in charge of MGR thinking ??
Bugger bugger bugger. And I so want them to do well. This is suicide...
What bothers me is yet again its the same old comments - it wont handle and its only got 320 / 400 BHP (delete as appropriate). Yes, that maybe, but we have already seen that it DOES handle very well and with the ability to configure / setup the car to how the driver wants it, I can see a very flexible car. Yes the headline power figure isnt as high as some comparible cars, but its all in the torque and flexibility of the engine - something they call "real world performance". Yeah, a Fezza 360 has considerably more power, but you have to rev the nuts off it to get to the power - the lazy V8 has it all nicely available.... its all horses for courses....
Its down to personal preference and if you dont like it then great. But the same old stereo types keep getting banded about again and again. And as for if people want to buy it - not everyone wants a TVR or a Porsche 996. Some people want to be different and I can see MG Rover catering to that market - lets face it, nothing will sound or look like it down the Kings Road for some time.... yet a 996 is unlikely to turn any heads......
I quite like it and having seen a couple now I think its actually quite a good design. It remains to be seen if it will be a success. But the foundations look good from here and my fingers are certainly crossed....
Nice to see lots of support for MG Rover and constructive criticsm again...

Oh come on. These cars are 20 grand over-priced AT LEAST. They will sell very badly. 80 grand? A GT3 is a far better buy, full stop. Or a C4S. Or a (slightly) used 996 Turbo. Or a used 550. Or a newly reduced Mazzer (just 50-odd grand now). Or a Merc SL 500.
If the car is so appealing, how come no one on this forum likes it? People on PH are exactly the sort of folks MG should be aiming at. But we all think it is ugly and over-priced.
