I just bought a Magnette ZA that I intend for road use, but also for sporting events like sprints/regularities/hillclimbs etc. (I know that sounds daft to some, but there you go).

I'm struggling with making a decision about what rubber to put under it. I have 2 sets of wheels, the stock 4x15 and an alternate set of 5.5x15. Both sets I'd like to remain close to traditional tyre sizes as possible, because I personally prefer the tall profile rubber both in feel and how it looks on these cars.

Just wondering keeping these preferences in mind what experiences people might have with tires that are suitable for both day to day use, as well as giving enough driver feedback to satisfy driving in competitive events (though not circuit racing).

I hear lots of people (that also aren't circuit racing) talk about running Dunlop or Avon historic road/race tires, but I wonder if that's going a bit far considering I'll be using the car also in normal road conditions, including wet weather which Germany (where I live) has plenty of.

Maybe you MGA folk can relate to this? Magnettes share the same steel disc roadwheels (except the TwinCams, you guys got the good stuff!)
