MGF WHIRRING NOISE

My automatic 2001 mgf when i put it into drive i can hear a whirring loud humming that sounds as though it is directly behind me, this is constant as the car goes up and down the gears,it is not the rear bearings,they have been replaced but when i am going downhill as i slip the gear out of drive it stops.
any ideas.

Yep - you shoulda bought the manual!.. There are loads of issues with that awful Steptronic Gearbox, so Google search and buy a hammer to clear the funds from your piggy bank
