Got the car Back Thursday apparently now flushed through and fixed.... Problem was they wouldnt give me the car without my paying the bill! £909 lighter in the pocket and still not convinced...

Went for a drive, found the heaters didnt work, called the garage and explained this, he told me the mechanic couldnt test the heaters when flushing the systems because the knob was broken.... I told him I found this very alarming as to bleed the car, the heaters would need to be on full.... He arranged for the car to be collected and said I'd have it back Thursday night, fixed.

Got the car back "fixed". Went to work friday, car is fixed... went to work Saturday, Car overheated AGAIN!!! frown

Sunday morning checked the coolant.... non existent, tank empty.

I have a letter Im taking round there tomorrow, basically setting out my complaint and asking for a refund, I'm going to have to take it elsewhere and have the necessary work carried out, Im now wondering whether the HG has gone again because of the water disappearing, I had new Coolant pipes fitted so they couldnt have leaked.

Thats absolutley rediculos, obviously these people done have a clue what they are doing and personally I wouldnt let them work on my wheelbarrow, they could have jsut swapped th eknob from the other controls or is that too obvios for them. Did you give Dave a ring at Chester Le Street, honestly he's spot on for MG's around here and he will give you advice and check and do the job properly and still leave you enough money in your wallet to live.

Have called Consumer Advice who have now referred the matter to Trading Standards, they said I should hear something from them in the next couple of days so its a case of swapping shifts etc. and perhaps hiring a car until this is sorted, I haven't called Dave just yet as the guy at the garage told me I needed to give him a chance to rectify things before going elsewhere. I feel I've now done this so Trading Standards have stepped in, I will call him though if I need to get it fixed myself!

Thanks. P.S. did you get your window sorted? did it cost much?

Don't let them near the car again - you have taken the right route by involving Trading Standards and CAB. Presume that you paid the bill "under protest" and now have the car and all keys (and thus you now have regained full legal ownership of the car again).

Suggest that it probably worth getting an inspection of the car carried out by an independent engineer at this stage before any further work is done on the car, to ensure that you have evidence of what is still wrong with it, without anyone else carrying out repairs on it, to support any case for a claim against the garage.

Windows done and re fitted, much better than the original MGR crap one. Cost £50 but was done the same day and was so easy to remove and replace it was unreal. Hows it going with the garage.

don't assume that especially if cowboys fitted them

If you can possibly afford it write off the money you've wasted with these idiots take it to the recommended place, sure you've written the money off but not even more of your life

From personal experience I'd advise you to cut your losses - I'm sure most others wont but having been there more than once I would

Cut your losses indeed to go and get the work done properly elsewhere, but in parallel pursue the original garage for all that you can get back.

Yes if you feel you can really get anything back then you may feel a bit better later but if you waste your time, money and emotion and get very little or nothing back then you'll feel even worse - just my personal experience with dealing with more than one of these types

Pursuing things like this can sometimes consume and distract you from the better things in life

The very best of luck with whatever happens or how far you decide to go

Indeed it can, but if so minded, the "small claims process" http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/claim... (which you can also do online) is a good way to focus their minds and can very often lead to a settlement even before a judgement, but you are right, sometimes life is too short.

trading standards said for me to put a letter together saying how unhappy i was with the job they had done on fixing hgf and i was giving them one final chance to put my car right or i was taking them to small claims court . so thats what i did they said that it was the water pump this time so they have changed that. car running really well but water level still dropping very slowly . i have taken it to a diffrent garage to be looked over and they have said that it has blue coolant in and should have red looks like they must have just ripped old pipes off and replaced with diffrent pipes not standard . he also says that heaters are not right and that he can not say for sure but thinks that they have taken thermostat out. there was a thermostat in my boot when i got me car back but the garage said they had changed it. he said for me to take it back again and complain as its still not right not going back there any ideas where is best to go what garage can look after and sort me car best tf 160 am in the newcastle area

Still the best place to go. Dave at Plawsworth (Chester-Le-Street) knows the K Series inside out and does a top job.
