Off to look at a ZT260 this weekend, car is a 53 plate SE model in pearlescent green with 100k miles. What would you expect to pay for one of these? Its up for £3950 which seems quite cheap to me? (from a dealer BTW)

Thanks
Chris

As with any purchase, buy on history and condition.
If it has a documented full service history, then I would say that it is an absolute bargain price. A lot of car for the money for sure.
Have a look at www.two-sixties.com where there is a whole lot of info about the 260.

The ZT is a lovelly car at any rate and the V8 is super. 18 mpg ist that bad and anyway on a run you will get more than that.

That price seems suspiciously low to me, even with 100k on the clock, especially if it's with a dealer. I'd have thought more like £6k from a dealer.

If you haven't already seen it, find out the last 3 digits of the VIN number and post it up on two-sixties.com. If any of the car's history is known, you'll find out rapidly on there.

There are a few things you should check:

- Make sure the fuel filter clip has been fitted (although it is highly unlikely to have made it to 100k without separating if it hasn't!). £5 part and 30 minutes or so to do the job if it hasn't.

- Check the rear springs. Some of the earlier ones (including my own) have been known to snap at the top.

- Ask if it has been fitted with a two-sixties.com top heater hose. The OEM one is ste. It fails after 10-15k miles or so, so one of the guys on the owners' club commissioned a replacement part. So far, I don't believe any of them have failed (my own is on 30k+ miles and counting), and to make it better, it's cheaper than the OEM part! smile

- Make sure the aircon is working properly. Some of them were a nightmare. Make sure you get a wide range of hot to cold, although in this weather you're going to struggle to make it actually use the cooling bits!

Thinking of selling my ZT-T 260 sadly. great runner, regularly serviced, 76k in x power grey.

Any ideas where to advertise and what i should realistically obtain for it would be very much appreciated.

I would try an advert on here and also on two sixties.com Prices seem to be all over the place but there are not many ZT-Ts around. Will be interested to see how you get on as I might look to sell mine early next year.

Thanks Jules. I will post an update in due course.

I would appreciate views of forum members on the following:-

I am refurbishing the wheels on my 260 and wondering whether I should revert them to the original silver or continue with the x-power grey body match. Looking to guage people's opinion and your comments would be very welcome. Many thanks.

The car is advertised on Piston Heads... It is the 'X Power' grey estate. You can see photos of both wheel finishes within this ad.

Personally I would go with silver, as i feel wheels on a grey car look better in a contrasting colour rather then one that blends in.

The wheels on my 260 are in a terrible state, but I have managed to acquire a spare set of wheels so I can send the originals off to Rimstock to be refurbished in the MG 'shadow chrome' finish. When done, I can then shod the spare set with winter tyres.
FYI Rimstock do actually have a set of slave wheels for the 260 that you can use (for a cost) while your wheels are being refurbed.

Steve, thanks for that.. what do Rimstock charge per wheel to refurbish?

i can happily do without the car for a few days or a week as i have a little run about. will they come and collect the wheels?

I was looking for a fun cheap family car and stumbled across the ZT 260 as a possibility.

Does anyone know if the later models have curtain airbags or are the side airbags for the front passengers only?

Regarding Price:

I have Glass's guide values here for last month, this assumes FSH, everything working in good condition ready for a dealer to polish and put on a forecourt.

260 SE
Trade price:
F/lift on a 2004 53plate with 64k is £3175 (down £125 from previous month)
Mileage adjust -£625 for 100k

So £2550 is what trade would expect to pay.

non f/lift 2003/53 with 66k is £2800 (down £125 from previous month)
Mileage adjust -£775 for 100k

So £2025 is what trade would expect to pay.

Usually a dealer would be adding £1000-£2000 on top, but they will have a lot of costs involved, may have to pay a bit more than trade to get a good one, have to put warranty on, pay their fee's, rent, staff, adverts, bodyshop, fix any problems if they buy a lemon etc.

edit:

The prices I quoted above are indeed glasses but they are utter nonsense in the real world at the moment.

Best ask on the two-sixties web site. I am a member but I am unsure about the air bags ? As far as I am aware the extra air bags are fitted on the "A" only. The price of the cars vary a bit dependant on how good and how needy the present owner needs the cash. A budget of 6k should find a cared for one if you have no need to buy.

Parkers / Glass guide values aren't very good for ZT's - just because they think it's what it's worth (£2k for a 7 year old, £30+k V8 saloon?!) doesn't mean you'll ever find one for that price!

Some models have front a-pillar airbags for the front passengers only, there will be a mark (believe it says SRS?) on the a-pillar if there is. Quite a rare option, though - if your worried about safety, the ZT is a 4-star car, 5 if you get one with the extra airbags.

I'd agree that the pricing guides are completely irrelevant for this.

At present, there are a grand total of 5 saloons and no tourers for sale on Autotrader. Obviously Autotrader isn't the only place that cars get sold, but any car outnumbered 4 to 1 by Scagliettis on Autotrader is always going to be tricky to price! hehe

I paid £12,700 for my Mk1 tourer 4 years ago. It's an 03 plate SE which at the time was on about 20k miles, and included 6 months tax, 12 months warranty and 12 months AA cover. Since then, I've seen maybe 3 other Mk1 tourers for sale (there were fewer than 30 made in total), and none of them have been asking less than about £7-8k.

Bear in mind that something like 50% of the UK owners are in two-sixties.com, and you start to realise that people rather like these cars. Regardless of what Parkers say, you'd have to land on someone really desperate to sell quickly to pick one up for less than £5k in a private sale, I'd think.

Mileage seems to have very little impact on price as well, although this is probably because the later-registered ones (despite the fact that they'd been built a couple of years earlier) get clobbered for the really high tax band.

If you look closely the ncap video shows the side head airbag about half way through the video

http://www.euroncap.com/Player.aspx?nk=2f969299-5a...

It also shows one with and one without.

Seems a good strong safe body but a bit rigid compared to modern standards

Absolutely.

I have sold mine now and can advise i got about 4.5 times the guide price henry is talking about. smile The guides are OK for mass produced vehicles but not for a model, ZT-T, where only 120 across both versions were produced. The value will only increase from here on so whatever you pay now will be worth it.

Will be very sad to see her go at the end of the week.
