Just thought I'd update you on the saga that is my MGTF. On the 2nd when I last posted:

Hiya, have called the garage this morning, still they havent put a bill together, after being quoted £600 originally for the HGF they have said £250 so far for the labour, apparently the boss is looking into the split back window, I told them I was insulted at the way the car was given back to me. damaged and absolutely filthy and perhaps the work not done.

They have now said it would be normal practice for them to let me run the car perhaps 500 miles and then they will do a filter and oil change?

I took the car out on a drive and it overheated this was the day I got it back! spoke to the garage and the manager was a complete a***, I asked him to come to the house last Weds to look at it, he came, agreed it shouldn't have been given back to me in that state and said he would have it taken on a low loader to a garage in Bedlington where there's a guy who works on Rovers can fix it. This was meant to be this morning. needless to say I still have a broken down shoddy looking MGTF on my driveway.... he hasn't bothered! Dont know where I stand now in terms of having to pay the bill, he has a set of my car keys but im tempted to just send it off to another garage to be fixed! let him sue me! I'm passed caring now! Cant find a light at the end of this neverending tunnel!

There's a surprise! They've cocked it up and now hope you will disappear into the ether... Typical.

Nothing appears to have changed since the last posts on the other thread, whereby the garage did not fix the problem properly in the first place (and didn't know how to carry out the repair properly in the first place from what you have descibed) and have not offered satisfactory resolution following that, leaving you with a car that cannot be used and has been damaged.

Time has come, I think, to seek proper advice, on what is the right thing to do and how to do it. The AA point you to the CAB for formal advice, but there are some useful pointers on their website:

http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/legal-advice/...
http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/legal-advice/...

bottom line appears to be that the garage were aware of what needed to be done to the car (fix HGF) and you have received the car back not repaired properly, with other damage caused to it (the rear window), no bill, and no satisfactory resolution to provide a proper repair. You should, therefore, be in a strong position to choose which garage you take the car to for repair (find one that knows MGFs, not just Rovers). Have a look at the advice on the AA website, speak to your local CAB and Trading Standards and the garage and see where that leads you - hopefully to another garage that can do the job properly and not leave you out of pocket. The other threads have all of the technical detail of what the garage should have done, and the parts to be used, to carry out the repair properly.
