MGF engine bay fan trouble

My parents' 1996 non-VVC MGF engine bay fan is coming on as soon as the engine is started and continues to run for ~5 minutes after switching off. The coolant level is constant and at the normal level.

The thermostat was changed a couple of years ago.

Any ideas?
