Bargain MGF, do they exist??
Discussion
I hope they do exist because I think I found one. 2001 X reg VVC, 58k FSH, BRG with full Black/Green leather, chrome pack and wood pack, 16" wheels, MOT till the end of march. Needs 2 tyres and a wheel bearing and the odd scratch sorting but so far is looking good.

Of course they do despite what the majority of PH-Know-Alls would have you believe about anything with an MG badge ..
Just be patient and check all the things you would check in any used car ~ most MGFs are at least eight years old now and most cars of that age need to be checked very thoroughly irrespective of the badge on the front .... Some have been maintained properly and those are the ones to obtain ... and there are bargains to be had if you're careful, patient and selective.... Don't forget, a FSH is no guarantee of a job well done or, done at all ... but it is a help.
Look for all the signs of a well cared for car ~ not just shiney paintwork ~ the more inmportant stuff. Find a good one and you'll be pleased with it.
Less seriously :~
You could buy one of those Nipponese two seaters most PHers would always recommend which are better in all respects and far more reliable and never have problems. Just ask two of my female work collagues who've just spent close on a grand on each of their cars needing extensive repairs to their engine and gearboxes respectively. Mind you, apparently, they are the only two examples of such known to have given problems since the dawn of creation.... unlike the Brit built MGs with their "They all do that" problems ... except mine which have never done that ... ever ... but, there's always a first time ...

Thanks people, I already knew they were great cars as are all MG's and this F is number 6 in the MG's ive got at the minute and I love them. Gave the F a good check over today and have a list of things to do but it is a short list which would have been shorter if I hadnt folded the hood back and split the window but never mind I still got a bargain.

There is a woman on MGrover.org who can swap the plastic bit for you via mail order iirc.

I can't get over how much people pay to get their head gaskets fixed garages just seem to double the price when its a K series. Ive used a guy in Chester Le Street he is ex MG Rover and BMW now has his own place and did the head on my ZR 160 for less than half that. He uses the latest multi layer gaskets and now insists on doing the timing belts and tensioner if appropriate and water pump at the same time I cant recommend him highly enough.

That wasnt the full bill! The total was £850 including replacement of a metal water pipe which took 10 hrs (I stood and watched for 2 of them on a friday night after work!) and ss underfloor pipes. I know the work has been done to a high standard, they gave me a courtesy car for the two weeks, and he is kind enough to let me pay in instalments.Moral of the story - There may be some cheap MGF's about but buyer beware!!
Even after all of this i would do it all again. The MGF came out when i was 13 and i can remember the excitement! I had corgi models and went to the motorshow to see them in the flesh! Now i finally own my own, my life is complete!
Have to go now, the men in white coats have a new jacket for me to try on.
