Hi Guys
Am in China at the moment, and yesterday saw my first MG6 - what would have been the new ZS.
In the flesh it looks great. Really it does. The fit and finish are first class. The new interior is VERY nice indeed. When they come to the UK I think they should be well received.
Interestingly, when Nanjing Auto bought MG they changed the MG bit from meaning Morris Garages to Modern Gentleman.. Since that time, Nanjing have been merged with SAIC (yes the same SAIC that bought the Rover (ROEWE) bit) The new advertsing expressly says Morris Garages, so SAIC at least appreciates the MG heritage!

details here, if you read Chinese! http://www.saicmg.com/

Do they have any pictures in English?hehe
The new model looks like the Vauxhall Insignia. I do think the other new cars should have had a design upgrade the 25 goes back to about 1998. There were a few designs/prototypes for a new TF and TF coupe which were pretty decent.

Hi Andy,
Where in China are you ?

They sure do look the part.
far better in the real than on the posters.
Even on the posters that are all over Beijing subway.

Now, I wonder if they will make a RHD ans sell it in UK, ?
I am sure there would be buyers.

Availability in the UK?

I doubt the UK is currently high up on their list of priority world markets for the Chinese owned MG brand.

Far too much lingering negativity overkill here associated with this and other UK product as a browse of a few threads on PH and elsewhere :~

http://www.autocar.co.uk/forums/t/11301.aspx

.. will quickly confirm..

Those wiser orientals can afford to be patient where the UK is concerned....

I was in Shanghai, Dalian and Guangzhou. Back in the UK now, but going back in a month or so!

Yes, these cars look good in the metal. Well built, and nicely finished. The new interior on the Roewe versions is nice to. (very different to the MG version interior )

It's just a shame there are only 4 cylinder engines available.

Does anyone know what has been changed to turn the K series into the Chinese 'N' series?

I think they have fitted the MLS gasket set and uprated oil rail.

yes. It makes me laugh, all the people on various forums writing off the Chinese as some sort of half witted bunch building 40 year old VWs. Anyone who has been to the major cities knows that within 100 years there will be only two principle languages on the planet : English and Mandarin. China WILL dominate. The Locally built cars are light years better than anything from Korea (or even Japan for that matter) at the same stage in their development cycles. I was wafting around in a locally made Buick for a while, - fit, finish and refinement were FAR better than for the US built version of the same car I rode in last year. The Chinese are coming boys, and they will be building some cracking stuff in the next few years.
What makes me weep if if this bloody Government had supported the deal, MGR would be 50/50 JV partners in all this SAIC success, - think about it... 50/50 partners with a major player in the biggest car market in the world. R+D done in the UK, Longbridge still producing cars. Thousands of jobs.... all thrown away for less than it cost the government to compensate the workers who lost their jobbs, and largely because the govt would not underwrite the pensions deficit at MGR that the Governments own policies had helped to create. The rest of the world is laughing at how we threw it all away.

That's what Land Rover did though, surely there has to be more changes in order to justify calling it a new engine series? Or is it simply a re-branding exercise to remove the association with head gasket issues?

I believe there were other changes to management/head design to make it Euro V compliant

Hi Andy, I digress a little off topic,

Well said.
From where I am now in China, Shandong Prov.they are leaving Europe and the rest of the western world behind.
In a few years, we wont even be able to hang onto their shirt tails, such is the advancement.
You only have to look the property price in Beijing, Shanghai Jinan, Dalian, or Qingdao, to see this place is in demand.
Who will the Chinese buy next is the big question, there is no doubt they have the money to buy what they want.
