I've just got a quick question that hopefuly someone can help me with.

I keep going away for several weeks at a time, and want to keep the batteries on my MG B charged. I have a 12volt charger / battery level maintainer for use on another car - will this work if plugged across the two 6 volt batteries, or have I missed a fairly crucial point?

many thanks

Yes, provided you do as you suggest ~ plug across the two 6 volts batteries in series.

Had several MGBs over the years ~ the batteries and their location was the one thing about the cars I did not like. Mind you, away from the heat and vibration of the engine, they did tend to last longer down there behind the seats.

If you charge two 6v as one 12v you will get uneven charging of the batteries. One will reach a full charge, then the charger cuts out and could leave the other one without a full one. AFAIK

Funny thing is ~ forty odd years ago I bought an analogue Crypton battery charger for use on my MGBs and Motorcycles. I never used the 6 volt facility on the charger, always switched to 12 volts....

It is still in my garage and it works just as well today as the day I got it. It charges well and when the battery is near the mark, settles to a steady low trickle charge.

Nothing lasts forever, but this good old boy is making a good fist of it.
