Hmmmm, I seem to recall getting quite a bit of stick for scrapping my F after it kept getting British Leyland-itus. mgbreaker.com will give you a fair price or a good source of parts if you decide to get a new engine. Sounds like you've lost a core plug. All the best Catherine. Rob XXX

Well deserved stick too! .....If it "kept getting" as you so describe, then the real failure was in not identifying the cause(s) of any problem and rectifying it properly.
Same old same old.... "They all do that mate ~ cost yah! "
I bet mgbreakers will snatch your hand off too ... for good reason.
..
Hey everyone & thanks for the replies!
PANIC OVER! Russell came back at to look at it & it was a split hose! He also told me that my coolent pipe is corroded so I need to replace them! Just glad it wasnt the HG again!
I have noticed that I am topping the water up quite often?? Is this normal with these cars?
Thanks,
Catherine

Excellent news ~ glad for you and the car. Maybe now you can get to enjoy it .... Come spring you can really appreciate it.
Patty, provided all is well, there should not be any need to top up at all ~ maybe a tad after a few months ~ that's all I use on my MGZS with a similar engine.
When all leaks are identified and rectified there should be no losses of coolant. However, once rectified, it is essential that the cooling system is bled correctly to exclude all air pockets from the system. I cannot stress this enough. It is no coincidence that a good number of so called "failures" occur soon after these cars are serviced or worked on by professionals. So easy for incompetents to hide behind the "They all do that" scenario. here I speak from direct experience ~ They do NOT all do that.

I agree.. the bleeding of the system correctly is critical for any mid-engine layout car. You should NOT be topping up every few days, this is wrong. You must have an air pocket somewhere... When I had all my work done, the car was in for the whole day just for the hose work, bleeding, new coolant and testing. This was back in August and I have not needed to top up since. I just keep 2L of coolant in the front boot, along with 1L of Oil when travelling.
You should always keep an eye on the coolant level as leaks can occur. The level if all is well should not go down except for a very small amount over a long time. If you need to top it up more than between services then you have a leak and it must be checked. We raceed our LE500 all season without topping up the coolant but it is still checked every time it is started.
