Having sorted some of the more important aspects of my F, I have been looking at Induction kits from K&N and Piper, but not sure on what is best for this car??

I've owned a couple of MK1 MR2's in the past and fitted the K&N option, which provided a nice noise and a noticeable throttle response.

Any comments on this matter would be useful smile

An enclosed system is the way to go with an F or TF. Open cones such as the K&N 57i will take in hot air from the engine bay = drop in power.

The best enclosed systems in order of preference are the Vader/Taipan which give the best flow vs filtration, closely followed by the BMC CDA and the ITG Maxogen.

None are cheap I'm afraid.

I know the Elise boys and girls seem to rate the 'Hurricane' system but I have not been able to test that yet.

I wouldn't touch the Ṗiper-X system with a bargepole.

The enclosed systems are dearer than the open ones and do not sound as good, but the idea behind them is to get more cold air and as a rule they do. I bought the K&N open one for my MGF Trophy and then set about trying to feed it with more cold air and shield it from the engine's heat.

The kit comes with one air feed pipe but I utilised one of the original air feed pipes as it has a 90 degree bend where it used to enter the air box making it ideal to pull in fresh air from under the car. The "ram" pipe I bought shown on the pics below was to big to fit next to the air filter so I put it on the bottom of the K&N pipe supplied to help the air flowing into the pipe. The other end shown was from Green Airfilters and agian is designed to help increase airflow.

Only had the Trophy for a month and have turned a nice car into a proper hairdresser's! original:

Yes..I forgot to think about the engine bay heat on these. The MR2's engine bay is a far better design, but my MK1's were suffering with corrosion in the end and had to go. I did look at the Taipan system on KN's site but then with the price I thought eeek, over £200!!! I may leave it for a while, but at least I know which is the best route to take, so thanks! smile

Nice trophy - I bet the air feeder pipes were bit of a mission to get in situ, over the car and then under the car.

I've got an ITG panel filter and it gave the car alot more low down punch. I would'nt touch K&N after the last one feel to pieces.

I am running throttle bodies with pipercross airbox and filter,so a bit different, loss through internal filter was 8bhp on the rolling road, after finding out what a lot of the guys with caterhams and elises do I took out the internal filter, ran my 4" induction hose to the fwd facing side of the gearbox ( as per where barefoot has his)with a 4" filter cone bought from e bay ( 800bhp shop)for about £15, and hey presto power was back.
just something to think about before you spend loads on induction systems, we have all been down that road

Thanks for all the advices. Having costed stuff out as I would need to pay someone to do the bits n pieces, I think I will leave it alone its pretty damn quick for the std. 1.8i model... I can only guess the 160Bhp Trophy is insane before you fettle it.

Yes mine is the 160 trophy.

I forgot to tell you I also have a Close Ratio Box and a light flywheel.

It does go very well.

I have no weight in the back, with tools etc in the front to keep the weight forward.
