Took my car into the Garage on Saturday to have the Toyo Proxes fitted - wow!! talk about a new sure-footed experience going into the bends..the A21 from Kent into East Sussex was a great blast on Sunday.

Anyways..my local Garage told me of a "Thermostat Conversion Kit" as one of their customers brought a kit in to be fitted (about 1 hour labour) that relocates the Thermostat for better operation of the cooling system etc. This was to an MG-TF.

Question?? Is this a good thing to do? and if so...where do I get one please as I am great believer in prevention is cheaper than cure.

Thanks!!

Some time during 2003 MG stated fitting a 'PRT' thermostat to TF's. This stat responds not just to temperature changes, but also to pressure changes.
The revised state can be retrofitted to older cars, but requires an amount of pipework to be changed too.

The alternative (and what is sounds like the garage have fitted previously) is a remote thermostat kit from QED Motorsport. This relocates the standard stat to the rad top hose, were it will respond more quickly to coolant temperature changes, so this is a good thing.

Something else worthwhile fitting is a low coolant level alarm, another thing introduced in later cars. You can get an alarm kit for the F & TF from www.ukmgparts.com
