1962 MGB Fuel Pump
Discussion
Evening everyone.
Just hoping for abit of help. My uncle living in South France has a 1962 MGB 1.8ltr.
Lovely car, however the Fuel Pump has decided to call it a day. He cannot find the parts anywhere in France and MG do not supply them anymore. He has specified it is not an electric fuel pump.
I have offered to find the parts and then fly down and drop them off for him (Week in South France with a 62 MGB is also a good reason to deliver it!)
I am just wondering if anyone knows where I would be able to find such a part?
Any help be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

a good reason to go, but I really have never heard of an MGB of any vintage with an original fitment of anything other than an SU electric fuel pump, or a suitable equivalent electric replacement. Would need more details of the type of pump and its location to offer anything other than this - http://www.sucarb.co.uk/SUPumpSearch.aspx-

Sorry Mark, that link is dead.MG Mark
I spoke to him earlier today and he says you can get to it by taking the rear wheel off. Unfortunately I forgot to ask near or offside!
I really should have gotten more details!
I'll ring him tomorrow.
I thought the early ones were mechanical pumps. Shouldn't have any problems getting one through either the MGOC or the Beehive, both available on line. Had to do the pump on my 77 B and found it a bit fiddly as it goes through the boot on the driver's side into a slot above the axle.
No memory of a mechnical pump - only electrical, mounted on the drivers side (RHD) above the rear axle - MGAs and early MGBs were postive earth, and after that all negative earth SU pumps. can be accessed/replaced from inside the car, by removing the battery from that side to access the pump.
When the points start corroding and the pump stops ticking on a run, drive with the battery cover removed and tap the top of the pump occasionally to re-start.....
