It's a while since I did mine, but....the origins of the MGA rack - and the MG Midget - lie in the venerable old Morris Minor of 1948 onwards, with a 5/8th thread.

You will find that MGB ones are no good, because they are too long and you won't be able to get the lock nut on and wind the track rod end on far enough to avoid having splayed out wheels, which is good for neither tracking, handling, nor tyre wear.

But we are lucky, because the MGA ones are the same as those fitted to the AH Sprite and MG Midget from 58-72, original part number GSJ 169. Depending on where you look, you should pay between £10 and £30 a pair.

I took the info. to Wilco in Norwich.Found the parts on the shelf for £16.66. I fitted them yesterday and had the tracking done. The car pasted its MOT two mths. back so the old ends where ok.But fitting the new ones have inproved the steering quite abit! Job done.

A pleasure to have helped - the rod ends will help to sharpen the steering up, as will ensuring that there is no play in the trunnions; however, if you really want to sharpen it up so that it turns in almost as you think about turning the steering wheel, then fit polyurethane bushes and a 3/4 inch roll bar and link arms on the front(all MGB parts) - works like a dream1

I'm very pleased with the results of fitting the new trackrod ends.Poly bushers and roll bar could be a job to do in the winter months!

I will have to look you up at Marham one day Mark.

Woody.
