I used to have an MGB Roadster with the standard 1798 B-Series, and I've had a go in a V8 converted GT with the standard Rover V8. But I was wondering how far you could go.

Has anyone considered a V8 from an Audi RS4? There's an Ultima described as having the RS4 but without the FSI and using throttle-bodies (I think). Would it be possible to go along the same lines with an MGB? You'd then get 420PS out of the box with modern components. I know this is not one for the purists but hey, its progress (possibly).

What I'd aim for is a GTS style car (like MG Motorsport do) complete with flared arches, with a gutsy V8 and a decent manual box. Oh yes, and I love the sound of the modern Audi V8.

The O-series has been done, the Rover V8 and even US-V8's, Cosworths and even a rear engine for what ever reason. There was even mention somewhere of a Lexus quad cam V8.

Any thoughts?

Anything is possible with the right money involved.

Apparently, the Audi V8 bolts up- pretty much to the transaxle box for the Ultima Application (Mid engined).

I think you'd struggle to find a box to fit it in a RWD application.
That said, you could get a bell housing made up to fit a box, but it would run into thousands- bespoke clutch, flywheel, etc, etc...

Probably be cheaper to source a second hand box used in the DTM race series?

IMO, not really worth it- why not try the LS engine from a 'Vette?
All are fitted to Front engined, RWD applications. Much less hassle.

The sound of the Audi V8 would probably change an awful lot too- as new a new exhaust would need to be designed from scrtach to fit.

If it was my money, it'd go on an LS type motor with parts readily available over the counter.

Have a look at the MG B V8 conversion thread, there are plenty of options out there.
