My dad needs the carbs tuning on his 1800 mgb to get the emmisions right for the MOT as she's running rich. Anyone know of anyone who could do it near Westbury in Wiltshire??? Needs to be done this week preferably, Thanks

Linky

Linky This link is a pdf file so will take a while to open

If you do not get any response from others try a local mg club, there is bound to be one near you, just give them a call.

yea he's fairly handy. I lent him my mgb manual to try n do it himself but he said the carbs looked different as his started life as a rubber bumper car not chrome. I'll check out the pdf. and see if this helps, thanks

Pop the dashpots and pistons off the carb body so that you can reset the jet to be level with the bridge, by turning the jet adjusting nut to take the jet down by 12 flats (or the screw on later HIF carbs with integrated float bowl, as described in the link above). Replace the dashpots and pistons and it won't be far off. Balancing the carbs as per the manual can be done with a flow meter, or listening through a tube, or through the really simple expedient of unscrewing the dashpot plungers and leaving the loose in the dashpot, making sure that the oil level in each dashpot is the same and then balancing them by ensuring that they both rise by the same amount - if they do they are and if not, twiddle until they do. Clamp up the spindles and set the idle speed. Flush and change the oil if it is near being due, and make sure the car is properly warmed up when tested. Good luck!

You could try Tony Shaw_thruxton racing services, based on Thruxton Circuit
