Unipart MTF-94 gear oil, developed for use in the Land Rover R380 gearbox for the Discovery, Defencer and Rover PG1 and PG2 gearboxes as fitted to the Freelenader and MGF...change interval 100,000 miles. Try Land Rover, Honda and BMW agents or specialists as they all produce gear boxes which use that spec oil.

Some will say you can use 10/40 synthetic, which is alright for top ups, but not for a complete replacement if you want to keep the gearbox working in the long term.....

2.2 litres required.

Thanks Mark, its just for a top up

I'm surprised its so specific - thought it would be a Halfords common spec stuff.

need to check level this weekend - havent had a chance to look at it yet - only just got the car but where is the level plug ?

Cheers
Steve

Since my local MG-Rover dealership was wound up and now mainly vend Fiats and Nissans, I get my MG-Rover parts including MTF 94 gearbox Oil from the Ford main dealership spares counter here in Gloucester.... They can supply MTF 94 which I use in the Rover TorSen gearboxes. It comes in a plastic 2.5 litre bottle looking like this.

This shot shows both filler and drain plugs in the PG1 gearbox ~ I believe MGF/TFs have the PG1 box although these shots are of the TorSen PG1 box fitted to the Rover turbos ~ this being a 620ti.

MG-R MTF 94 cost about £15 last time I got some and prior to learning Ford spares counter can supply, I got some from PARTCO which came in the familiar Red-White-Blue UNIPART plastic bottle ~ the former ARGroup parts supplier ~ and identicasl to the MG-R bottle apart from graphics... that cost £17 for the 2.5 litres.

I believe Honda Dealers can also supply in addition to those already mentioned ~ my two local Honda main dealerships in Cheltenham and Gloucester stopped trading recently too....

We're all doomed ...frown

Excellent MGJOHN - many thanks.
I enquired at my local Allparts and the guy who served me was Ex-Rover spares counter and was very helpful - he also mentioned it was a honda g/box so the oil could be supplied by them.

Thanks again
Steve

I changed mine to Redline quite recently. It was a revelation and improved the gearchange no end.
