As my recently aquired 1996 MGF "project" needs a need exhaust down pipe and cat, I was thinking of fitting a de-cat pipe instead - my question is how would this affect the MOT emmission test ?
any ideas ?
ps - any one got a down pipe and de-cat pipe for sale (cheap!)

A de-cat pipe would cause a straight fail on emissions. I have an Elise with a decat pipe (1.8 K series like the MGF) and have had to replace the pipe with a cat every year (not a bad job, 30 minutes).
I have also had a couple of MGF's in the workshop recently and one had a decat pipe fitted. It was a long way out on emissions and required a cat to pull it back into line for the MOT.
A good, freeflow cat wouldnt make that much difference to power. It sounds nice without the cat but I'd guess a pipe is only good for 3-5bhp at the most.

thanks for that - think I'll get a replacement cat - don't need more MOT hassles.
