Can anyone suggest a affordable and safe fix to a faulty passenger airbag?

The SRS warning light is on (again!) and I have had everything checked and cleaned, but still faulty. Not a simple fix under the seat for £40 this time.

The driver's air bag is fine, but apparently the passenger air bag could go off at ANY time, whether or not I hit something. This means I am not keen on letting people sit in the front and if it went off without warning, would be likely to actually have an accident.

Quote to replace is around £600 including VAT. Much as I love driving this car, unless I can find a cheaper (but still reliable) way of fixing this, it's going to be bye bye MG frown

Any ideas? Just spent some money on servicing, so would be good to keep it on the road a bit longer!

Cheers

It isn't true, unless the MG rover airbag system is unlike every other manufacturers system (well it is MG rover) which it won't be then when the airbag light comes on the system is deactivated, worse case scenario it won't go off in an accident.

Your options are take it to a proper garage and get them to sort it.

Fit a good used airbag and get the light turned out.

Remove airbag and fit squib resistor across the plug to fool the system in to thinking it is there. However be aware you won't have an airbag there anymore.

this is a common problem in our garage. the solution we always use is to hardwire the conector under the seat. the only problem with this is that the seat can't be removed unless you cut the wire. hope this helps
