Does anyone know where the water drain goes from the heater intake grill in front of the windscreen? I suppose it could be blocked by crud after all these years. (I suppose there may not be a drain but I hope there is!)

I seem to get a lot of water in the footwell and it can only be coming in from there as the car is covered when outside by a waterproof cover over the hood, windscreen etc but it does not cover the grill. I can see some standing water in the bottom of the tray if I remove the grill.

The drain is on the drivers side (assuming RHD) and does get blocked quiet easily. It drains to the gearbox tunnel through a pipe with a bulb on the end and a slit (very descriptive!) Ive found its best to clean from below and then from the top with a combination of small screwdriver and wire coat hanger.

Be careful not to pull the pipe off though as Ive heard it can be a pain to get back on.

I was getting water in the foot well but since cleaning haven't had a drop.

68Sebring is absolutely right. I did mine a couple of weeks back and no problems since. Best get the front wheels up on ramps. Underneath you will see the drain pipe with bulb on the end. A small screw driver to begin and then bull wire did the job.

As suggested above, start underneath then work from above once the bulk of the blockage has been remove don't use too much force (see below)

Once done you can get mesh grill inserts to stop big bits getting in see http://www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/acatalog/MGOC_Acc...

A very common problem - it may tell you about this in the Driver's Handook which is an absolute must for owners to buy it tells them all they need to know and only £5.50

There are two for 1967 (can't think of the differences at the monent but the seller should know) see http://www9.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgo...

The drain tube is Item 25 on this page http://www.mgocspares.co.uk/acatalog/MGOC_Spares_H... and as there's no price it may no longer be available so don't damage it or remove it but once you've cleared it out run warmish water through it to check for full flow then you'll guess the other name for it

Other parts and book suppliers are available
