I finally found a car i liked and bought after searching for ages. I've bought a 2002 MG ZS 180 saloon.

I am aware of cambelt costs and had the garage change the belt and a pulley before i bought it. I also understand they can have problems with the hydraulic clutch, but is there anything else to watch for? Any little annoying things I can sort before they become major problems?

Isn't there an issue with the inlet plenum/manifold? A sticky valve or motor I think....

Clutch Hydralics can pose an issue as well.

I *think* you have to keep an eye on the coolant level. Do these engines suffer hgf's in any way similar to K serieses?

But they're a cracking drive though, they are genuinely quick.

Check that the stty oem mounting for the clutch cylinder that's attached to the bulkhead isn't bending. Better still, go on to the mg forum and bung sheddist a hundred quid for his conversion to the far better quality Honda clutch hydraulics.

People talk about the motors that open up the inlet manifolds burning out.

Other than that just watch out for all the drivers of supposedly "superior" cars that you're going to really annoy. hehe

Already found a blowing back box - being replaced by dealer tomorrow, blower fan not working - common fault, part sourced, and sticking throttle which is something to do with the throttle solenoid which is also being done by the garage tomorrow.

I shall also be purchasing and installing an oil catch tank kit, as i have read that the oil system puts too much oil into the throttle body.

A local garage owner mentioned he's seen several 180's that have decided to relieve themselves of a con rod at higher mileages (well over 100k).
