my car overheated and now I have a bad knocking noise i think its the big ends.
where can i get a good reconditioned engine from with guarantee?

Fit a Civic Type R. Any of the Rover 1.6 twin cam engines should fit. The newer the better. I always use Wereham breakers.

Any idea what the problem with the old engine is?

I would forget a Type R engine, its not directly interchangeable with the K-series and at present a conversion would cost a good 5 times more then the cars worth.
