Hi, sorry to mention the MX 5 on this forum.. I know that some "f" fans will be hating the mazda!
Here's my question... I am 6ft 2 too tall, and do not have the smallest of frames, I have had an MX 5 as my daily drive for the last 3 years and want to change it for an MGF, now the MX was "snug", but not uncomfortable, anyone on here made the transistion, and able to comment on size comparisons?

Didn't swap one for the other but looked at MX5s before buying my 'F, well, you would wouldn't you...

One of the reasons I ended up with the 'F was that (for me at least) it felt a little roomier and generally a nicer place to be for 2 hours or so of motorway grinding up to Binmingham and back on a weekly basis. I'm not sure there's actually much difference between them on an objective basis, but subjectively, I felt happier in the 'F particularly with the hood up and nothing in the 2 years or so I've owned the car has made me regret the choice.

I'm a similar size to you, regularly drive an F and find the accomodation confortable but the seat a bit too high. If it were my daily driver I'd definatetly get the seat lowering kit from the MGOC. It's just a set of longer seat springs that replace the standard ones.

Best you try one on for size smile

best car iv even driven, though others would say different, i know many 6ft people who drive Fs and companies such as MGF Centre and possably the MGOC do lowering springs/kits for the seats as well so you can get even more headroom. they certainly have a much larger following with the MG world so parts/advice etc is second to non, take your time and get a good one, get one thats already had the head gasket done, and the head bolts, water pump, belts etc done as well and not Just the gasket or a shim put in, if you can afford then get a VVC though the standard 1.8i is not slow, i thrashed a Type R civic in mine once on B roads, he just couldnt keep up. full leather is much nicer though all are very comfy, ABS and twin airbags are also good things to look out for and worth having for safety and the sake of a car worth a bit more (i hda neither, only driver airbag in mine, was a great car and still stopped very quickly) plus the correct tyres, goodyear eagles, alot of people will fit other tyres, get the proper recomended ones if possable although good quality alternitives are ok, i had nankangs on the back of mine, i wasnt satisfied with them but didnt have the cash to change them and couldnt complain about them, except in the wet! theres loads more i could tell you, and others, any Qs just ask, worth joining MGOC and checking the mags/write ups on the net (very, Very helpfull!) and the mgoc forum.

Doug.

Believe it ~ but, the little rodent in the Top Gear team will not believe you!

Anyone thinking of getting one will be well advised to have a good drive in one beforehand. Not a quick buzz round the block ~ ~ good advice for any car really. The mid-engine rear wheel drive configuration is not everyone's cup of tea and the handling has to be used with respect when the slippery stuff is about.... like it has been for the past few weeks now. It can have that Porsche like pendulum effect for the unwary but nowhere near as badly as those "tarted up beetles" as a certain motoring journalist calls them ..
