MG ZR Stepspeed gearbox

Can anyone give me any feed back on this problem? I have a MG ZR stepspeed which on inital fire up takes a long time for the vech to recognise the auto box. It takes between 60 to 90 secs for the "P" to come up on the dash and the red LED light on the gear selector. Until these light the vech is stuck in 1st gear. Once it has recognised the box the vech i ok for the rest of the day until it is left again for a long period.
