Greetings,

What difference will you notice on a 'B if you add a stage 2 head? Currently got standard engine (28k since full rebuild) with K@N's and falcon exhaust (alledgedly free flow but about to be swapped for a Peco). I'd like a little more mid range if possible. Would a head make any noticable differnece? (cost prevents a crossflow head). Not looking to chase horsepower on a graph particularly, but would like a little more omph if possible. Not over keen on changing the cam really as doesnt that involve engine removal? Handling and brakes are nicely sorted so this is the next logical step really....

I had a gas flowed head on mine and it made a distinctive difference in terms of both pick up and rev range - the B head is notoriously wheezy from its poor design, so anything that makes the car breath better will make a difference.

You'll also need to change the needles in the carbs if you go down this route as the mixture will be way out for them.

If you've got the cash, you could consider a cross flow head which are becoming increasingly common.

And yes, a fast road cam will make a bit of difference too. I had a stage 2 one on my car, which was great for overtaking with but the car had no poke below 2000 rpm and I had big problems with rough idling and overrun with it. Stick to a stage 1 cam and you'll be delighted.

Head, carb flow and exhaust makes a massive difference to a B, pop it along to someone who can tune the B series afterwards (use me if your in Yorks) and get it set up properly and you will have a smashing driving car.

Thanks chaps. Crossflow is out due to cost really. That and I think I'd be driven mad trying to get to the dizzy and oil filter.

Wildoliver - Would use you but im just outside London, Thanks anyway though!

Peter Burgess is the man for the job! I have a friend who maybe selling a a stage 2 head. Was made as a spare for his 1860 race engine, but it is no longer required!
