I had a good poke round and a 30 minute drive in of these a few minutes ago and I have to say it's really rather nice!
Not as quick as my 'F VVC nor as free revving and responsive but then it would be wouldn't it - apart from anything else the TF only had ~150 miles on the clock. but everything else was light years ahead.
Fit and finish was light years ahead of any "old" F or TF I've ever seen, better than my ZT in fact, and that stands comparison with anything. Looks fantastic in pearlescent white, a bit lairy in orange, and downright evil in black - apparently the blue is lovely but they only had white, orange, and black on show.
Steers better than my 'F, gearchange is loads better, ride is nearly as good (i.e. a lot better than the original TF!) and I think they may actually even have dropped the seating position just little a bit!
Got to say that at £16K with enough kit (hardtop, wind deflector, leather everything, aircon, iPod compatible stereo, etc, etc, etc) to sink the Titanic it looks like pretty good value for money. Yes, you can get an MX5 for the same sort of money but not with anything like the spec of the LE500 and I've got to say the TF's prettier (big bubble arches and projector lights just don't suit the MX5's shape). If the level of showroom traffic and interest I saw this afternoon translates into sales it'll do pretty well.

Flogging a dead horse on here mate - PH, the thrill of hating MGs.
Been There Done That Got the T-Shirt. Why do you think I only posted that here rather than in one of the more general forums...It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that the LE is going to sell out (when I got to the showroom at 3:00PM on Saturday 2 of the 3 cars my local dealership had been allocated were already spoken for) but I reckon the regular TF is going to sell too. In a market segment where the current choice is between an MX5 and an MX5 in a different colour all they really need is decent quality product (which they seem to have in spades, I've seen some mutterings about the build quality the pre-production cars which did the rounds but the car I drove and the ones I looked at in the showroom really did seem very nicely screwed together with lovely paint, the tightest panel gaps I've ever seen on an F/TF, no rattles and good interior fittings) and value for money which they've certainly got...

Aye, we had a TF ourselves and chose it after testdriving an MR2 and MX5. I had a ZS180 and thought it was a cracker to drive.
It'd be wonderful if they could bring out some all new, good, modern cars, they've got the resources. I'd love to see a 200bhp plus TF coupe for a start, probably need to be a smaller-engined turbo cos noone's buying large engines these days.

I hope the 'new' MG does well, I believe that the LE500 is a warm up act to get them back on the radar before they start to launch all new models.
I'd love to see the TF coupe built that was shown as a concept in 2004/2005, it certainly is a good looking car:
I wish them all the best.

Where did you go and view the LE500, at the MGOC? Seems a good enough price to me too.
I hope they do well and that TF Coupe looks lovely!
MG need to make all their cars RWD, with decent performance and bags of MG character and they will be great. No FWDs, no lame attempts and lots of character.

I'd settle for an update (not just a facelift) on my ZT. It really doesn't matter which end the driven wheels are when a car drives as well as that, it's a nice place to be even when you're not driving, and it's got as much character as you could wish for in a "Bentley for poor people" kind of way --
