Got a perfect MGB GT !
Discussion
Just purchased an MGB GT as a classic.
Pictures available here
Looks just like it did when it rolled off the factory line back in 1972. The most concours car I've ever seen - it won the MG owners club award back in 1994, and won another award in 1998. My Mrs keeps having people stop her to oogle at it!
Any owners on here?

Gotta say Daniel, that's a lovely car in excellent nick - as you'd expect from a former show winner.
DId you get it privately or from a garage or 'contacts'
Nice to see it has the correct grille - so many of the H, J, K plate ones have the later honeycombe one.
I had a K reg Roadster in primrose yellow in the early 80s - rebuilt it - not a patch on yours though
Couple of observations - can't remember seeing one in that colour before and are you going to treat it to some silver and black metal no plates - makes ALL the difference IMO.
Those yellow and white plates look, well, wrong somehow!
Bloody nice though, either way.

Just wondered what colour blue it is, it doesn't look like it is an original MG colour? They did a Teal Blue which was a lot darker IIRC and some awful aquamarine blue, looks like a 20% cyan colour - it's truly sickly in the flesh!
You can have the non-reflective plates on any car registered BEFORE Jan 1 1973 which was in the middle of the L regs. so yours is fine!
Where's the overdrive on it - is it on the gearsatick or is it the extreme right hand switch on the dash (right of the wheel?)
I say again though, bloody lovely car ...

Looks like a great car! JezP on here knows his MG's and I am sure he'll comment!
How much did you pay if it's not a rude question?
It's always interesting to see what price classic cars obtain, as their value - even more than modern cars - is intrinsically held in their appeal to the emotions.
We picked this one up for £6400 and it must be said that the Mrs has shown a LOT of appreciation for it! She loves it more than any car she's previously owned (including ones that cost 4 times as much). Shame she'll have to garage it when the winter closes in .
Bought it from a reverend. And when his Mrs brought us tea in the living room, boy was I tempted to lift the pot and say "More tea vicar?".
Edited for spelling.

Hey Guys,
Nice motor goodlife. just checked out your pictures. An absolutely beautiful car!!!
Got a few questions for anyone on here.
I'm thinking of buying an MGB GT myself but know very little about cars in general never mind a classic. What should I be looking out for on a car which is 30 odd years old?
I intend to use it every day near enough and all through the winter too. Is this at all possible? Fortunately I don't need it to get to work as I have a company van for this so it wouldn't matter if my car let me down occasianaly.
As a result of still using it every day I will be covering about 10-15000 miles a year even though I don't use it to commute. What are MGB GT's like covering this distance a year? Am I living in dream land expecting it to do this?
Lastly just for the record I am 23 years old so the car will be considerably older than me!!!!! Just thought you should know!!!!!
Many thanks in anticipation for your help and advice.

Edited to ask what overdrive is cos I forgot first time round!

I use my 4.6V8 Roadster all year.
The shell is the most important item unless you are into restoration. depens on money you wish to pay but there are new shells,US rust free shells and complete restorations.
The Porters guide to B restoration available Amazon has a number of pages on what to look for when buying and how to restore.
A number of daily drivers out there, standard parts are cheap and easily available as are tuning options.

Christ, I used that guide when I did mine from the ground up in 1983 ... !
MGBs are good and the mechanicals are easily fixed and available so get one with a decent shell (as little rot as possible) and you won't go far wrong. The cart-horse leaf springs are something else though!
Pretty reliable cars all-round.
Overdrive is like a 'fifth gear' – it just drops the revs while keeping the car's speed up and it's an added extra to have - certainly helps the mpg. Only available on 3rd and 4th from memory though.
