Hello all,

I'm looking to buy an MGC GT for about 6k, anyone know where there might be one for sale?

I've done the usual websites including the owners club, any info would be a great help.

Thanks

How about this one?

Would leave you some cash to change the wheels if you dont like them.

How weird, I actually drove that car on Friday.

It wasn't too bad but needed a fair amount of work doing to it imho. The main thing was no Webasto & no wires but the original hub caps do have a certain charm.

I know where there is one to buy actually (no affiliation either) are you anywhere near Yorkshire? The car I know is tartan red on wires, I can't remember if it has webasto or not, I feel it maybe does.

If your interested then I can have a quick look and if it's suitable probably arrange to inspect/service deliver it for you.

I'm on the south coast so a fair old way from Yorkshire but I know I may have to travel to find the right one, all depends on the car really... If you could provide some more info then that would be great.

Cheers

I've a peach of a 1967 MGB GT I'm selling as my new flat doesn't have a garage. I'm in Edinburgh (Scotland) send me your email and I'll send you some pics. if you want.

Mark keep trying to call in but they are never in.

The car though is a 69 on G, tartan red, chrome wires and ST front skirt. Doesn't look bad without getting down on hands and knees.

I have a couple of Webasto roofs, one brand new & still in its box, and another in vgc, plus fitting instructions, if you find a car you like but without the roof. I'd certainly go for the sunroof: it transforms the car, and I have it open all year round. Happy hunting.

That's not a bad price if it is a good one.

I stopped to look at the one near York.

I have never seen such a rotten car being sold as road going.......

If it is just surface rust and it is a regularly used car that is kept on top of £4600 is a good price, I can see MGC prices going higher and higher, in the 10-15 years we have had ours (roadster) prices have gone from circa 7k for a good one right up to the current 15k ish for a good one. While Bs stay pretty steady around the 3-9k depending on model I do think Cs will continue to climb.

The only warning I will give (and this isn't aimed at your car but all cars Justin) is that like all MGs of the period they do like to rust, they start off with light surface that if kept on top of (flatted down and painted over even with a brush, or underneath regularly inspected, wire brushed and re undersealed) isn't an issue at all, however if not attended to (especially while being stored) it perforates the panel in question, the real problem then occurs when this now allows water in to the box sections and the rust spreads internally finally resulting in a badly rotten shell, they don't start off badly rotten it is just lack of care from owners, you can't avoid rust but you can manage it.

Cs aren't cheap to restore depending on the issues, the back end is more or less identical to an MGB but from the floorpans forwards the shell is radically different, it is more unusual for the front end to be rotten but the floors can rot out badly. Ultimately it is better to buy a solid one to start with, or a restored one or get a restorer to build you your car to your spec. Ultimately it doesn't work out any more expensive than buying a rotten one and trying to patch it together losing years of your life and thousands of pounds. Better to buy a good one to start and enjoy it from day one!

I have given this a lot of consideration overnight. had a lot of calls, a couple of viewers, and some offers. But in reality deep down for thar money; I am just going to keep it, drive it and enjoy it. Its not been out for months, and I drove 20 or so miles yesterday and forgot how good it went too, and that six noise is lovely.

Note to all: If you are getting itchy feet with your own MG, store it away for say 6 montha, fetch it out one sunny day even if its cold. You may just think "what the ell am I doing".

I was reading Olivers comment about the rot that you could get in a C, and thinking just how good mine is. I remember when I restored a C-GT welding sills, and cutting floor pans in. Hated doing that, and hated the expense all the same. I sold that one, and missed it, hence why I have this one. Good ones are hard to find, like Oli said, they are appreciating slowly. I cant imagine the "credit crunch" will affect this end of the market either. Certainly £150,000 Astons etc, but we dont borrow money for Sprites, B's and C's. Its not all about the money, my hobby business will grow anyhow. I know I will be slightly sadder not knowing to pull the choke out, and turn that key. vrooooom!

You do right, I could see MGCs going the same way as MGA twinks to a lesser degree, as soon as they get brought to the publics attention in some way eg. Used in an ashes to ashes type show, shown on a classic racing program, even a documentary with them in I could see them taking off on price, one thing is for sure they are getting rarer by the day (as are all classics) but unlike MGB and Midgets there are so few to start with they have the potential for demand to outstrip supply, which is all you need to push prices up.

The C is such a fabulous car anyway, they are only ever pulled down by people who haven't driven one (or if they did it was a lemon) in the same was as they believe the nonsense about 911s being hard to drive etc. For the money CGTs are fetching at the moment I wouldn't be selling one if I was enjoying it and didn't desperately need the money.

I'm actually hunting a rough CGT at the moment to convert in to a Lemans/Sebring car, so if anyone comes across one at sensible money I'd appreciate a shout.
