Well unless the car in question is an mgb then there is no guarantee an MGB box will bring the lever to a more natural position?
As to what gearbox is used well it's just an MGB gearbox, not really used in much else, and available quite easily, ranging from circa £20 for untested and probably suspect boxes from ebay to tested working boxes available from myself and other mg specialists for various prices, I tend to be in the £150 region as I make sure all the boxes I sell are totally tested. Some others are cheaper.

I know the small marina's had the triumph stanpart box, and as far as I am aware so did the 1.8 marinas just with a different bellhousing/backplate assembly.
The stanpart box is right on it's limit imo with a tuned 1500, start putting b series torque through it and I'm not surprised they throw problems.
The b series box is robust, if you get one that isn't showing problems (jumping out of gear, weak synchros) then provided you look after it you shouldn't suffer any problems, they hate people sitting with hand on lever or being rushed.
You have 2 options, overdrive or non overdrive, both bring lever to same place, non overdrive are very cheap, I don't think i have any tbh. Overdrive is the best box as you get that nice split third and the cruising 4th.
You will probably need an MGB prop, or at least to swap the MGB flange on to your prop, although the marlin may have been designed to use the B prop as standard. If you measure your existing prop and let me know I can measure the difference between the 2 boxes and let you know if a B prop is the right length.
You will probably also need the engine backplate, flywheel, clutch assembly, slave cylinder, flexi pipe, gearlever and overdrive gearknob to complete the package.
