European Recovery Insurance
Discussion
I used RAC last year for the 'B' and the main race. Just remember that if you are on an Autoroute you have to get towed off by the approved French recovery services who are contected from the Orange emergency phones at the roadside, (the RAC or whoever cant help you at that stage) as they are privately owned. (I think this might just apply to Payage sections but im not sure)
I found this out after having 2 punctures last year, the second being a blow out on the Autoroute about 90 miles south of Calais.
However, even at 5:30pm on a Sunday in France they were fairly quick and certainly very helpfull. The RAC (or whoever) can take over once youve been towed off the Autoroute but not before. The guy who collected us took us to the garage he was from and opened it up and put on a tyre and we were on our way. The cost of being towed off the Autoroute without this is approx 250GBP on its own so well worth being covered. (even if he did tow is 35 miles beck the way we came!)
'Je Suis en pan' is the phrase you hopefully wont need! (they dont tend to speak english so a phrase book is well worth having)
Im off to the classic this year myself but not in the B I don't think.

Taking my son's '78 Midget to the Le Mans Classic next month. Can anyone recommend an insurer who will provide "get you home" recovery insurance for a 30 year old car? (Not that we'll be needing it of course ...)
I have used AA in the past, in fact I'll be booking some on Monday.2 years ago we broke down in Northern Spain in a Healey, the AA recovered the car to the UK and we had a hire car for 3 weeks. Best 90 quid I ever spent!
