Which owners group?
Discussion
I'm not generally an owners club kind of guy but a quick look round the web reveals that there seem to be 2 highly active, well supported, very professional looking, well organised clubs providing an impressively wide range of services and resources.
So, MGOC, MGCC, both, or neither?
I currently own an 'F and a ZT (not deliberate, both of them just happened to be the right car at the right price at the right time!) - I guess I'd be looking for the occasional car centred social activity (runs, pub lunch type meets, race events, track days), a bit of advice from time to time, a register of sympathetic garages/engineers/bodyshops, a decent low hassle spares/consumables supply, and access to favourably priced insurance/breakdown schemes.

car club:
Very much a club, supported by the members and events run for the members, active social side and very competition orientated, some very good events usually with a sporting theme.
Owners club:
It's a business designed to extract money from members, they do social drives, concourses, basically tarting around and polishing chrome work. Very restrictive on supporting businesses (I gave up long ago trying to have anything to do with them) basically they want their members to shop with themselves or their "approved" suppliers, it's all a bit shady for me. But they have a better classifieds section in the mag.
Basically both supply a magazine every month, you can guarantee that the article that appears in one will appear in the other the month after so you won't miss out on anything, besides the articles are done to death now anyway, car club is more for hands on sporty people, owners club is more for people who want a shiny car to win trophies. I won't support owners club anymore don't like their business ethos at all, but will support car club all day long as it isn't a business it is a club. Plus you can compete with car club membership in a range of motorsports just having to pay the entry fee (£10ish) without having to buy a comp license.

Car Club sounds like the one for me - I've been kind of toying on and off with the idea of having a crack at sprinting with the 'F some day and this might go some way towards getting me off my backside, into a helmet, and onto a start line :-)Very much a club, supported by the members and events run for the members, active social side and very competition orientated, some very good events usually with a sporting theme.
Thanks for that...

Definitely sounds like the Car club is the one for you. The car club has both MG Zed and MGF registers which are free to join once your a car Club member.
The F register organises regional and national events and has a motorsport liaison officer who can provide you with any info on MGCC race/sprint series should you need it.
The car club also has branch dedicated to organising trackdays for MG owners, who you can find at www.mgs-on-track.com.
There is a very active community of F owners in the South East, for details of events you can contact Tim Morris at chair@mgfregister.org
If you can make it to the MG show at Silverstone this weekend then have a chat to the people on the F reg stand who will be able to tell a bit more about what we get up to, both locally to you and nationally. I will also be there so keep an eye out for a green/gold flip MG TF.

I am a member of the MGOC but also use my MG BGT (and occasionally my ZTT) for club motorsport with the Farnborough District Motor Club. The FMDC often have the MGCC on their list of invited clubs for events. have a look at:The F register organises regional and national events and has a motorsport liaison officer who can provide you with any info on MGCC race/sprint series should you need it.
