I fitted my new Mgbgt windscreen and to my amazement everything was going fantastic until I tried to fit the upper and lower chrome trim strips. I've used gallons of washing-up liquid, screwdrivers, metal picks and all manner of objects that may be of help and still they would not fit!smash. I did not buy the rubber windscreen surround from the owners club and was thinking if I've ended up with an inferior product. I knew it was going to be a tough job but it's annoying when I'm so close to finishingbanghead. Has anyone got any other ideas on how to get these bloody things in before I order a new surround?

Contrary to popular opinion owners club stuff is no better than anywhere else, it is just more expensive. The strips are a git to fit, you need to do it on a warm day.

As usual I agree, and can confirm that MGOC parts are not always the best and you'll get no volunteers to fit a B windscreen, once you've fitted yours you'll be an expert in the matter

Have a break, go back on another very hot day, all the best

There was something that wildoliver put that I disagreed with but can't remember what

Having parked in the sunshine for a few hours I put some extra packing in with the locking strip and hey-presto the top chrome trim slid in like a dream! Thanks for the tip!clap. I've just got the lower trim to do and I'm preparing for the worst!drink

That might explain why one of my GTs has hammer marks all over the chrome inserts. I've got replacements but haven't got around to fitting them yet. Looks like a job to save for a hot day! Thanks for the warning.

It's a horrible job. Don't know if autoglass would actually attempt it, always wondered if you claimed off your insurance for the job (£50 excess) would they replace the rubber and strips? They should really as most GT rubbers now are so old that they will disintegrate on refitting.
