That's helpful to the guy rolleyes

Mx-5 a very good car, but you will struggle to get a good mark 2 for the money, and mark ones are horrible in comparison. Neither competes with the f or tf for feel inside, the japanese cars feel quite cheap, but nice chassis and very reliable. I do however believe they are over rated as a car.

The F and TF however are very under rated, the K series is it's biggest weakness, yet it is actually a very nice engine, with extremely good power outputs and a nice sound for it's size and type. It is also mid engined giving you two boots, and excellent handling. The only way to think of an F is a budget elise, and the owners of those don't complain about the engines!

You might get in to a TF for your money, it is a better car IMO down to the suspension mainly, try and find one that has had the gasket and rail changed to the later landrover designed one, but not the end of the world if it hasn't, just budget a head gasket change in, otherwise very reliable little cars, cheap parts, good tuning market, there's lots of models available, a vvc with leather and all the toys is the pick of the bunch, but to be honest a 1.6 base model is more than capable of putting a big grin on your face.

Buy one on condition, the early cars tend to rust, Especially in the front boot area. You do have a choice to make at your budget of spend a bit more and get a really good example, or spend less and get an imperfect one and run as a banger, bear in mind they start from about £700!!!

Ebay isn't a bad resource either. Some cars sell well on ebay, others don't, f's seem not to sell well therefore cheap, pistonheads classifieds can yield some bargains too.

Well went to look at 3 yesterday and all 3 were bags of nails.
I always thought that it was a good idea to clean and polish cars when you put them up for sale. The one i looked at was covered in that much bird cr*p and dirt you couldnt see the paint work and the inside looked like birds had been nesting inside it!!
He wanted £3500 for it on a V reg. Surprisingly he had had it up for sale for 3 months and unsurprisingly i walked away!!
