Well a good friend has just dropped his car off for recommissioning, 1980-81 model MGBGT one of the last with the gold side stripes. I think I have only ever seen a few pictures of these, never one in the flesh. 28k from new, not driven since 2002, deckchair interior looks brand spanking new, original ST front skirt. The car is a total timewarp, right down to the tape player!

My job has good and bad times but sometimes you get the real pleasure of working on cars like this, it is far from the most desirable model but in many ways is more special than the dozens of MK1 pull handle roadsters that you can see at any event. Dare I say it even looks good (in a period way) in it's russet brown?

I always had a soft spot for the pewter LE GTs (and the Jubilees for that matter) Shame they didn't offer a choice of both colours for both LE models.

Hence why my roadster is finished as a pewter roadster!

The paint is a pain though compared to solid colours, and not as durable.

I'm not a fan of the rubber bumpers, but on the Pewter LEs they do look good. probably the best looking of the rubber bumper cars (although all black also works well - makes the bumper look as if it was meant to be there, rather than an afterthought. I have a very nice LE GT for sale - see classifieds, although I can't get enthusiastic about the deck chair stripes even in one of these. I've replaced them with a very nice set of leathers. Anyone hankering after a set of blue/grey deck chair stripes?

If your selling the car sell the seats with it. Originality matters.
