Hi all, looking around for something fwd as a trackday toy ( i have the tuscan for rwd fun) and the ZR's popped up on the radar, as fairly new, reasonable handling, quite cheap, and tunable ( well they did / still do race them)

so far my limited search has thrown up that there is ( I'll ignore the oil burner as thats for tractors)

1.4 105bhp
1.8 120bhp
1.8vvc 160bhp.

Has anyone driven any of them on the track, how do they compare to the usual track day fodder.

Im assuming unless its very cheap I can discount the 105, as I understand the 1.8 comes with better brakes etc, is it worth holding out for a vvc motor, or is that likely to be a pita. Although an extra 40bhp sounds fun..

how different are the 120 and the 160 to drive..

any pointers would be cool, inc best places to buy parts and upgrades

cheers

Alright mate

To respond to your question I have driven both the zr 120 and 160 and the difference is amazing the 160 picks up at no revs at all and has great handleing remember though its still a rover so you wont get anything like type-r power but for the money its a load of fun and the noise is amazing especially if you put a cotton pipercross induction kit on it which will take all of 10 mins and 50 quid and you wont believe your ears.

On the track they are fantastic even if you push them to your bravery have a look around before you buy and you can pick up a gem.

Hope thats helped.

Just spotted this post and thought I would throw in my 10 cents.. Im going to be using my ZR160 on the tracks this year and should have pics up within a day or two as im new on here. The car has an extensive spec including a turbo conversion which is a ball of fun, have a look at the (soon to be added!) pics on my profile, hope it helps!

Just to say - We had a ZR 105, took it on track a couple of times - gave up when I cooked the brakes (flames and everything). Brakes are definitely not up to the job. Looked cool though wink
