Girlfriend just had her 2003 MGTF 1.8 with "VVC" brakes (Brembo).
It's done 17k miles, taken it in to a garage and had the following done:
Annual Service
New Cambelt (5 year change)
Waterpump
Brake Discs (uprated) £170
Brake Pads (uprated) £27
Labour - £450ish
Total - £1k service.
Seem happy with everything but the £170 quid for the discs!? That's pretty expensive isn't it?
Anyone know any good Independent MG guys in the Sussex/Surrey area?
Cheers

650 parts.......less 170.......500 between mates..........water pump....cambelt......gold plated oil??? Sounds expensive too me. Labour sounds ok I wouldn't exactly be ecstatic at the thought of doing a belt on a tf, but parts god thats not cheap.
As to your original Q, if your buying uprated disks (what is uprated about them?) then expect them not be cheap, my 964 was the same, standards were £50 a corner, uprated £100 a corner. It had standards.

Are the brakes on a VVC different to the ones on a non-vvc? (apart from abs obviously)It's done 17k miles, taken it in to a garage and had the following done:

I would happily recommend a chap called Peter Wayte in Chobham.
He used to work at Trident in Ottershaw when they were an MGR main dealer, and amongst other things actually had official MGR training on the 260, which makes him like gold dust to us!
He's a one man band, and works out of a lock up on a farm just outside Chobham, so it doesn't look all that stunning, but his prices are exceptionally reasonable, and he certainly seems to know his stuff. He's worked on at least 4 or 5 260s, which is a pretty good percentage considering there's only 350 or so in the country!
If Chobham's not too far for you, drop me a PM, and I'll give you his phone numbers. If you work in town, just drive up to him, and he'll drop you at Woking station in the morning and pick you up there again in the afternoon.
