MG ZT 2.0 Diesel - any cop?
Discussion
I'm looking for something more economical and comfy to replace the Clio, and have seen plenty of the ZT Diesels around for £5k.
They're all 03 or later, c.80k on them, and to me that seems like a billy bargain.
I've driven the ZT so i know its a great steer, but is the 2.0D any good?
Its only 135bhp, but has a fair old lump of torque, and one fo those Tunit boxes takes it to 160bhp pretty easily.
So, any thoughts/scary stories etc?
Cheers all...

Diesel is a BMW lump, and pretty rock solid. I've not owned one, but have driven one a few years back around Rockingham Raceway. If you like the rest of the car, you shouldn't go too far wrong with the diesel. Bags of torque, just don't expect startling acceleration off the starting blocks.
Is this the part where I am supposed to convince you that you would actually be far better off with a V8, thus secretly supporting what you've been telling your other half for the last few weeks?
If so, then yes, you should definitely look at a V8, and never mind the slight difference in fuel consumption.
If you want a sensible answer, then at least 2 of the other V8 owners I know have bought CDTi's as well (either ZTs or 75s) for the improved economy, and are very pleased with them.

Yep, and the neat thing about the V8 is that it has such shocking fuel economy as standard (due to poor head airflow) that you absolutely *must* fit a supercharger to increase the volumetric efficiency - which gives a nice healthy increase in fuel economy!!! Win all round If so, then yes, you should definitely look at a V8, and never mind the slight difference in fuel consumption.

For reference though - my GF can get 28 mpg out of the Growler - is that enough for you? I don't get much past 12-15 but I *love* the noise
I once owned a ZTT diesel and it was excellent - It won't set the World alight as far as speed is concerned, but the handling was superb and economy not all bad - I think you get buy a chippy type thingamybob to up it to around 160 horses if that's your thang. Great value at the moment too....
