Well having stumbled on this instructive site (I was searching for some info on car allowance tax), I was driven whistle (I can hear the groans) to post an unashamed request for advice.......

Owing to a rather unmechanical mind and being more a snowHead than a pistonHead, I have decided to sell my '73 MGB GT

It had a new engine 3 years ago, is in "good" condition (quote from a reliable source - honest guv) and is probably worth £3,000 +/-

To be honest I'm not sure I want to sell it. Thoughts of sunny autumnal trips out to some of the Berkshire countryside have a certain romantic and traditional appeal. OK OK!!

However, I am enough of a realist to understand that even with the best will in the world, I am not the most likely person to spend the required time and attention to provide the best home for the car music Sorry, couldn't see a violin smilie!

So, here's the question. Should I advertise my car here in the hope of finding a decent, caring home and in the process fund my real passion for skiing? Or should I slope off (geddit?)with tail between legs for such an obvious and cheap ploy and try somewhere else?

Cheers

There's the PH classifieds if you want to give that a go, but you'll get a gentle slap from the mods if you actually try and advertise it in the forums.

Thanks Kermit Power. Unusual handle. Would it be safe to assume you like French cars? Or French colonialism?

I guess, in a rather round-a-bout way, I was asking whether the classifieds on pistonHeads were generally viewed as a useful "tool" for selling a car. It appears that the site claims some success from a quick look.

Again, thanks for getting back.

Can't beat autotrader for a quick sale, but the pistonheads site is well known by most car enthusiasts with web access.

Wadgebeast thanks for that. Might well put an ad on here for a while and see what happens. Probably not the best time of year for selling this type of car I imagine. Note: obvious lack of experience!

Mark, I have found the Pistonhead clssifieds excellent, and have sold several cars on them myself. Not a dealer honest,I just like changing my cars regulalybiggrin
cars sold include a 1.2 Corsa, Astra, MGf and MG ZR, so not all sports cars. have also brought a couple from them as well.
In fact I tend to look at them more that The other sites to be honest, and the fact that the ads are free and can be edited as and when required, I think offers a fantastic service.
If you look at the number of cars advertised, it seems that lots of other people have the same view.

Thanks for the welcome thewave. Will dig the camera out and see what I can do then! I know what you mean about these places. I joined snowHeads a few years ago when it started and don't seem to have left!

This seems like a friendly enough place and I could do with getting some advice about my other car. Will look for the suitable forum and fire off a few questions there.

Cheers

You're welcome, have a trip to the Pie & Piston every now and again if you fancy a laugh, currently we have the resident Aerofoil setting up a donation website to pay off his £2,500 strip club bill hehe

You'll find the answer to almost any question on this site, so stick around, what other cars have you got?

Dear God Man! They're not "kinky manacles", they're the PH Piston Rings!!! Although, now you come to mention it.... biggrin

If you're not convinced about selling the car, you might want to consider coming along to PistonFest '08 instead of hitting the slopes! You'll drink just as much beer, get live rock music and other entertainment (hiding Vixpy's fully assembled tent, bait the security guard etc) and it will be just as cold (May BH weekend in Norfolk this year) and you'll save money!

That, my Kermit Power friend is about as sacreligious a suggestion as I can take! Sounds like it could be fun though and why chose one or the other when both are possible. Where in Norfolk - I know the area fairly well and I suspect my bro-in law might be there (he lives out that way).

It was at Snetterton, but it won't be again next year. The weather was just too horrific!
