1976 Midget Questions
Discussion
My son has just bought a '76 1500cc Midget which is in really nice condition. In the absence of a handbook, however, I'm struggling to work out the heater controls. I've sussed that you twist the temperature control to turn the fan on but you can only do this when the knob is pushed fully in, i.e. heater set to hot. Is this right?
Secondly, I can't see any control to direct the air to the windscreen - at present it's mostly into the footwells. Where should I be looking?
Finally over the coming weeks we plan to lower and taughten the suspension to bring the handling more in line with a chrome bumper model but we'd also like to get rid of the weight of those black monstrosities called bumpers. What's involved in converting to chrome, or alternatively is it possible to lose the steel innards while keeping the outer shells of the bumpers?
Thanks in advance for any help.

There should be two flaps, one either side the the Gearbox tunnel, Close these and the air should go to the screen
Genius! Why didn't I think of that?quote]

First step is to undo four bolts and remove the bumpers, thus ridding yourself of 100lbs plus of deadweight overhanging the front and rear of the car. That in itself will add to the enjoyment of the car even before you do anything else! Thanks in advance for any help.
It was in Safety Fast magazine recently (I think?) about a firm that now do the original shape bumpers in fibreglass for painting, but IMHO, you would be far better off for looks by converting to chrome and lowering the suspension to chrome bumper specification - plenty of Midget specialists out there who can advise you/sell the right bits and the necessary cosmetic bits.
