Care of my OH's uncle (some time MG fan and mechanic), I'm about to take delivery of a 1974 BGT. It's in pretty good shape after some tweaks and fiddles, however the previous owner didnb't look after the interior. New door cards etc have gone a long way to helping, however the seats aren't good...
The foam has either disintegrated or is in the process of doiing so, and I'm keen to replace the seats. BUT we don't want (and can't afford) super-expensive leather ones. So far all I've seen are leather-finish seats for £700ish or foam kits for repairing the seats yourself, which I have NO idea how to do!

So, 2 questions: Can I buy cloth-finished seats for a BGT (if so, where and how much?)
How easy is it to repair the seats with new foam inserts, and what's the finished result like?

Roll on autumn weekends up at the garage with my new toy... bounce

Try and get a copy of An MGB is reborn which is on discovery channel. They show the entire job in detail.

I recently changed the foams and covers on a 1974 BGT (did the carpers as well). I managed to get an new "old stock" OE cloth covers. There are many companies who make them but check out the company in the MGB Programme above.

The foams are excellent and fit well-remember that they are sided. You have to take the seats out and thats pretty difficult as the bolts can be iaccessable/snap. The runners are also a pain to put back in place (remember which ones go where).

The back and base of the seats then need to be split-thy are bolted together. Dont try taking the headests off until youve taken the covers off (you have to press a clip on the inside of the seat frame). You have to take quite a few clips off which hold the covers in place. Then install the foams and then spray them with upholstery glue and attach covers.

Takes about 4-5 hours per side

Cheers for the replies...

Didn't realise it would take quite so long to do it!

I'm a lazy bugger... the MGOC do refurb'd seats for around £270... so I might look into that...

Cheers again,
