Well, I don't seem to be having a huge ammount of luck selling my ZS, admittedly though it is principally just advertised on PH at the moment.

I've price it at £2750ono. It's a relatively smart, low mileage 180 saloon. The down points are a noisy (but fucntional) VIS system, slightly excessive sports exhaust fitted by the previous owner and a few small scratches on the bodywork. The car is still perfectly usable despite these points and that price is well over £1000 under what you'd be asking if they weren't there. I'm sure there are plenty of cars going round with minor issues like this that don't decalr them in the ad and I'm genuinely worried I might have to raise the price to make people take it seriously!!

The scratches are no more than you'd expect from a car that's been used every day so I'd probably leave them otherwise I'm sure a bodyshop could touch them up for not a lot, the VIS system is £250 if you have a few hours spare one Sunday and I'm sure you could find someone who actually wants to swap the chavy back box for a normal one.

Anyway, after 12 months I felt like moving on, preferably to something RWD, plus as a saloon, the ZS doesn't offer a huge ammount of space given the narrow gap between the rear seats when folded. However, I'm wondering if I might be better off keeping the car, de-chaving the exhaust, fixing the VIS etc. It's a real pain as I already have another car, but I'm starting to think it might actually be the cost effective option.

Any suggestions?

On this particular part, I would suggest a ZT-T 260 as the replacement! yes

And before I get accused of advertising, no, I'm not selling mine! laugh

As for the rest, I can't help feeling that the remainder of the great British public would take much more of a Caveat Emptor approach than you are and price the ZS at 3.5k, leaving it up to potential buyers to spot the issues and start haggling.

Did see a ZT V8 the other day. Completely debadged and quietly (ok, loudly when the road opened up!) menacing in black. Would be interested in one of those if they were a little cheaper. Know they're greta value as it stands, but they still kick off at what, about 12k? which is a little out of my current budget.

To be fair, in many ways the ZS is actually better than the car I bought to replace it, I just fnacied a change and also something sending power to the correct set of wheels (ZT is also a little large, maybe a V8 powered rear wheel drive ZS biggrin) Anyway, stupid as it sounds, I might actually sell the recent addition instead. Spend a little cash on getting the ZS to top condition, run it over the winter as an only car (thus saving some cahs in the process) and then replace it with something like a 968 in the spring smile

Chris,
Mine needs to move so I'd accept 11k but finding one that cheap would be rare for an SE. You might find a standard one (not necessarily full leather, not all electric windows, not all have satnav, etc., you get the drift) that has done a good few more miles and has an owner REALLY needing to sell for less.

Think you probably missed the best non-SE 260 for sale when Keith's was sold.... that was going ridiculously cheap imho.

Not realistically in a position to buy one at the moment, but seen a couple recently and they're just such cool cars. I really quite want one and they strike me as very good value even at the regular secondhand prices.

The dilema remains with my ZS. Personally, I see it as a little comprimised - I'd rather have something a bit more practical (like an e30 325 touring) or something a bit more sporting (like a 944 or something) and the ZS kind of falls between the two. It doesn't have the performance or the RWD dynamics of a proper sportscar or the practicality of some of the other sports saloons. I do think they're great value, good to drive (for a FWD hatch) a bit different and more than practical enough for most people, but not sure it's right for me, so I'm reluctant to keep it and do the work myself. However despite it's faults it's still too good to let it go for 'taking the piss' money.
