Wire wheel wear and replacement

Hi all,
I'm 90% sure that the wire wheels on my MGB are worn to the point of replacement. I get big clunks from all four corners as I brake or accelerate, and I have taken them off and can feel wear on the splines. I know this is a recognised problem with wires, but am surprised as it was not evident when I bought the car 14 months ago, and the wheels appear to be fairly new anyway - is this normal or something I've done/contributed to?
Assuming I have correctly diagnosed the problem, will I need any parts (aside from wheels and hubs), and how much should the labour for this cost if get the wheels replaced and new hubs fitted at a garage?(I have no hub puller, and don't want the hassle of faffing with tyres etc!)
